A fixed margin across image sizes

I need to create a watermark that always sits in the bottom right-hand corner. So far so good.

I need it to ALWAYS have an equal distance to the bottom as it does to the right-hand side of the image, across images of different dimensions.

So, if I apply my watermark to an 8,000 pixel wide image and to a 2,000 pixel wide image and then shrink the 8,000 pixel image down to 2,000 the watermarks are the same size and in the same position.

How can I do this?

I had the idea to build the spacing into my logo file but how do I make Watermark Pro recognise the transparent area of the logo file? As soon as I apply the logo, any transparent areas are disregarded and I end up with the logo hard up against the bottom and right-hand sides.

I'm stuck and grateful for any help you can offer.

I think this should work when you are saving your watermark file as a transparent PNG.

Thomas Thanks Thomas - I have tried PSD, TIF and PNG but neither has worked the way I wanted. They only take non-transparent pixels into consideration. I haven’t tried SVG yet but I will keep trying. Maybe there’s a way using hidden layers in TIFs and PSDs. Any chance you would consider adding being able to define the margin as a percentage of the watermark SOURCE? That would solve my issue, I think. But maybe it’s not something a lot of people need. :-)

BluSwedeShu In fact, the transparent pixels are not taken into account because a logo is always placed as a smart object. Are you using the option "Resize" in the plugin for shrinking the images down?

BluSwedeShu ... being able to define the margin as a percentage of the watermark SOURCE? That would solve my issue, I think.

So I could specify that I want the margin to be 30% of the width of the watermark source and 100% of the height. Then that would be the same whether my image was 8K or 2K wide. But I don't expect you to make that change if it's not something more people would need.

No, I don't want to shrink them, I just want to know that when a journalist uses our images in an article and they shrink them down, the watermarks I've put on are displayed in the same way in the same position. At the moment we use Photoshop and a PSD watermark source file that we 'Place Embedded' That command places the whole image - including transparent pixels - and then when it's in the right position we confirm the. placement, flatten the image using an action and the batch command.

But it's a bit inflexible and complex when we have images of different sizes and proportions. So I'm on the lookout for a solution that anyone on our team can use.

I also have another challenge - on some of the images (but not all) I need to put a copyright notice bottom centre which is also tricky. I could do that as a separate watermark and run the images twice but I would still like it to always be the same distance from the bottom as the logo in the corner.

So IDEALLY what I'd like is to have source files with transparency that I could set to 100% of the width of the image and align bottom (left, centre or right wouldn't matter as all the spacing would be done in the source file).

BluSwedeShu I see. After more tests I noticed it always aligns to actual pixels. Whether it is a smart object or another type of a laye. Right now for me it is not sure what is the best way to handle this issue.

BluSwedeShu I will check the possibilities to recognise the transparent pixels for the next update. Probably won't implement a margin based on the watermark size.
